Gholamhosseini Freed on Bail!
Osanloo Still in Evin Prison!
Salehi and Hosseini Appeal Jail Sentences!
December 10, 2006- Mr. Gholamreza Gholamhosseini, a union activist, a member of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company (Sherkat-e Vahed) and one of the 50 suspended employees of the company, who was arrested on December 3, 2006, was released on bail on December 9, 2006. Mr. Gholamreza Gholamhosseini was in custody for about 6 days at the Tehran’s Police Station No. 2.
Mr. Parviz Khorshid, the Syndicate’s lawyer, has told reporters that no charges have so far been made against Mr. Gholamhosseini, but a file has been opened against him at the Branch 14 of the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Tehran. His family was not able to meet with him during this time. As of December 10, 2006, Mr. Mansour Osanloo, the President of the board of the union, continues to be in detention.
Mr. Mohammad Sharif, the lawyer for Mahmoud Salehi and Jalal Hosseini, has told ILNA news agency that he has appealed the jail sentences against the above labour activists. Mr. Sharif reported that his clients have been charged with “assembly and conspiracy to commit a crime”. He argued that “conspiracy” suggests a secret action, whereas his clients had communicated with the government authorities in Saqez, particularly the governor’s office. All the authorities knew that the 2004 May Day event in city of Saqez was going to take place; therefore, Sharif concludes, his clients were not engaged in any clandestine activity.
Salehi has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment and Hosseini to two years, while two other labour activists, Brorhan Divargar and Mohsen Hakimi, have been sentenced to two years in prison for similar charges.
