Esmail Bakhshi was reportedly released on a heavy bill

As reported by the Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Workers’ Syndicate, Esmail Bakhshi, a representative of the Haft-Tapeh Sugarcane workers, was released from prison on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Esmail Bakhshi was arrested on November 18, 2018.

Ali Nejati, a long-time activist of Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Workers’ Syndicate, and Ms. Spedieh Gholian, an independent reporter who was arrested along with Esmail Bakhshi, continue to be imprisoned.

The crackdown on worker-activists continue shamelessly by the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Security forces arrested Reza Shahabi and Hassan Saeidi, members of Tehran bus workers’ syndicate, and three other labour and social activists, Amir-Abbas Azaram-Vand, Raham Yeganeh, and Keyvan Mohtadi (On December 10, 2018) and released them on December 11thafter interrogation.

Meysam Al-Mehdi, a steel worker in Ahvaz was arrested on the 32nd day of the strike by workers of Iran National Steel Industrial Group, on December 11, 2018. He was released today, December 12, 2018.

We congratulate Esmail’s release to him, his family and Iranian workers and advocates of the working class in Iran and around the world. There have been extensive protests in Iran and around the world for Esmail Bakhshi’s freedom, who is part of a new generation of the leading activists of Iran’s workers’ movement.
